Sue Hankerd , DVM
Dr. Sue Hankerd grew up in southern Michigan. She went to Michigan State University for her bachelor's degree and received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree at Iowa State University in 1993. Dr. Hankerd worked at Auburn Animal Hospital during her time at veterinary school and purchased the clinic in August, 2001..
She currently lives in White Lake, Michigan, with her two children, Claire and Kyle. Claire is in 11th grade and Kyle is in 9th. She has a Yorkie (Annabelle) and two cats (Steve and Chupy).
Being a veterinarian was always Dr. Hankerd's dream. She loves working with the animals and enjoys getting to know her clients and their pets, It is a very rewarding profession and there is nothing that she would rather be doing.
Dr. Hankerd belongs to the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Michigan Veterinary Association.
She likes to ride her bike with her kids during her spare time. She also likes gardening, cooking and spending time outdoors.
Susan Spitsen, LVT, Office Manager
Susan has worked at Auburn Animal Hospital since 1997. She graduated from the Veterinary Technician Program at Macomb Community College that same year. She worked as a technician full time until 2008, then moved into the position of Office Manager.
Susan has been married to her husband, Dave, since 1993. They have 2 children, David, Jr., and Taylor. They have 2 dogs (Coal and Buck), and 2 cats (Marcus and Cowboy).
Susan loves to spend time with her family, walk her dogs, ride bikes, and read.
Julie Diz, Licensed Veterinary Technician
Julie received her Veterinary Technician license in September, 2011, after graduating from Macomb Community College in May, 2011. She has been working with animals for about 12 years. Her passion for animals is what led her to seek a career in the veterinary field. She loves helping animals in need while also educating the community.
Julie's family consists of her daughter and son, husband David, and Ricco, their Doberman Phinscher dog. :) They are currently looking to add a feline member to the family, as well.
On her own time, Julie loves having "dance parties" with her daughter and husband, singing karaoke, reading books and spending time with family and friends.
Barbara Patch, Receptionist
Barb loves working at Auburn Animal Hospital. She joined the staff in 2007 and has enjoyed getting to know our clients and their pet families, She lives in Shelby Township with her husband and their cats, Rupert and Bleu.
Outside of work, Barb loves spending time with her family (3 daughters, 2 sons-in-law, and 3 grandchildren), quilting, music, photography and reading.
Krystle Behring, Veterinary Technicican Assistant
Krystle is currently attending Oakland University and will graduate from there in June. She has always loved animals and is excited to be able to work with them here at Auburn Animal Hospital. She has three Shih Tzus--Teddy, Lacey Mae, and Fergie.
In her spare time she likes spending time with her friends and family and traveling.
Carol Paisley, Receptionist
Carol has been with us since September, 2014. She loves animals and currently has five cats. Leo and Lily are 8 years old, Sweety is 2; Stubbs and Caroline are 5 months old.
In her free time, Carol loves to spend time with her grandson, or you may find her curled up with a good book, with her cats curled up around her and with her husband of 32 years.
Brianna Gaval, LVT
Brianna graduated from Macomb Community College's Veterinary Technician program in 2017 after pursuing a lifelong passion for helping and caring for animals. She enjoys getting to know each patient and is dedicated to providing the best possible care for them. Outside of work, Brianna enjoys spending time with her family, friends, and her cat, 5 year old Siamese mix, Bitsy.
Angie Knirk, LVT
Angie grew up in Detroit and currently lives in Shelby Township. She graduated from the Veterinary Technician program at Macomb Community College in 1979 and has been a licensed technician ever since. She has always enjyed working with animals and can't imagine doing anything else. She joined the Auburn Animal family in 2015.
When not at work, she enjoys spending time with her daughters Jen, Ally and Tina, and her dog Asia, and her grandkitties Marybelle, Max, Abigail and Loki. She is also an avid scrapbooker, reader and gardener.
Claire Campagnolo, Veterinary Assistant
Hi. I'm Claire. I'm 19 and am a veterinary assistant. My goal is to become a veterinary technician. I am currently working on getting into Macomb Community College to get my degree.
I have 2 dogs, a poodle mix named Katie and a Domestic Shorthair cat named Pepper.
I especially love animals because they always manage to put a smile upon my face.
